Simulation Evaluation
Below are practical examples of applications of simulations. You have been assigned an area to evaluate their effectiveness and implications. Find assigned some of common fields that have been subjected to modeling and simulation and answer the questions following:
Atiya & Tasin
- Weather forecasting
Rishad & Terry
- Stock Exchange
Salima & Gary
- Genetics and evolution
Nafisa & Immaculate
- Flight simulators used for training pilots
Sajni
- Traffic flow used to study traffic
Answer the following questions:
a)Find and summarize websites or direct references to computer simulations within the chosen field.
b) How complex is the underlying model and on what theory/equations is it based?
c) To what extent is the assigned simulation above is being used for real-life or research/training purposes and why?
d) Based on the above, what is the reliability and effectiveness of the model and related simulation? (This is the most important question!)
Check the meaning of simulation, Feedback loop and mdel

Atiya
1. Describe how e-voting works, giving details of the IT terminologies used.
2. Describe the advantages of e-voting?
3. Discuss the Issues arising from using e-voting system.
Sajni
1. Punchcards have been used since the 1960’s. What are they and how do they work?
2. Describe the disadvantages to this style of voting.
3. What are the consequences of using Punchcards for voting?
Immaculate & Salima
1.Optical Scanners are an alternative methods of using IT in voting. This is where the scanner scans the paper and pen method of voting to help count up the votes, which should reduce the number of human errors in counting votes. What are the disadvantages of this form?
2. Give practical examples of places where this has been used stating the advantages of this form?
3. What are some social / Ethical issues arising from using this systems?
Gary & Nafisa
1. Many countries are using ATM like machines called Direct Recording Electronic systems for voting with touch screen monitors. Diebold Election Systems is one manufacturer. Describe how they work?
2. Discuss any advantages and disadvantages of using this system.
3. Which countries have used this system and what were they views?
Tasin
1. A fundamental challenge with any voting machine is assuring the votes were recorded as cast and tabulated as recorded. Describe some of the methods used.
Terry
1. Internet Voting has not really developed. In February 2004, the Pentagon dumped its internet voting system. The $22 million Secure Electronic Registration and Voting Experiment (SERVE) was supposed to allow military and overseas civilians a chance to vote, but was not considered secure enough. Discuss some of the issues associated with Internet voting.

5. What have been the social effects of the move of banks towards increased use of IT.? Think about the effects on both customers and employees.
E-commerce
Recently, details including private information of hundreds of consumers were viewable on a company’s web site. The information could be seen and copied by anyone with internet access. No complicated hacking tools or programming knowledge was required. Many computer security experts think that customer records are not properly protected on many Web sites.
